eCards conversion

Converting a web-to-print template into a dynamic imaging one requires some special steps to get the best results. Although, most web-to-print templates work fine as images.

Lets say we have a greeting card template that we want to use as an eCard.

Set units to pixels

Web-to-print units/

/

Lets start by changing the drawing units to pixels in the top CorelDRAW properties bar.

CMYK to RGB

CMYK is the color mode used in web-to-print templates. This means that all the colors that are assigned to the shapes have CMYK coordinates. We need to change them all to RGB.

Note. The default CMYK profile in CorelDRAW needs to be changed to RGB mode when creating Dynamic imaging templates, as opposed to creating web-to-print templates.

The fastest way to do this is to use CorelDRAW’s Find and replace wizard (Edit/Find And Replace/Replace Objects…).

Web-to-print replace a color or palette/

/

/

Chose the Replace a color model or palette option and click Next.

/

/

/

Web-to-print replace wizard settings/

/

/

/

Use these settings to convert the color modes to all fills (solid, fountain and pattern) into RGB.

/

/

/

/

Web-to-print replace all/

When this window appears, click Replace All.

/

Note. Use the same method to convert all Outline colors by checking the Outlines option in the wizard.

Outlines

One more thing you should do before resizing all object in your template is to get all outlines ready.

By default, outlines have fixed values. If an object with a 2px wide outline is downsized by 50%, the outline will still be 2px wide and appear wider than before in reference to the object.

Web-to-print scale with image/

/

To avoid this, the outlines need to have the “Scale with image” option checked. This ensures proportional resizing of the outline when an object is being resized.

Select the outlined object, open the Object Properties docker (Alt+Enter) and check the “Scale with image” option.

Resize all objects

The original size of the template is too big for an eCard and we need to downsize it.

Web-to-print select all/

/

Drag CorelDRAW’s Pick tool across all objects to select them.

/

/

CorelDRAW lock aspect ratio/

Click on the padlock icon in the top properties bar to lock the Proportional scaling/sizing ratio.

/

CorelDRAW resize objects/

Change one of the horizontal/vertical values (Ex. 600 px) and hit Enter. The other value should change proportionally, use this size as the new Page size of your CorelDRAW document.

Font size

Web-to-print paragraph text font size/

Resizing objects with the method explained in the previous step works for Artistic but not for Paragraph texts. Fonts inside Paragraph text frames have to be resized manually.

Select the text frame and change the font size until the text fits in the frame.

Images

Although the images were resized along with the other objects, they are still in CMYK mode.

Dynamic imaging convert to bitmap/

/

/

Select an image, go to Bitmaps/Convert To Bitmap and use the appropriate settings.

Note. Check the Transparent Background option when converting images that have transparent parts.

All done!

Our Greeting card is now converted into an eCard.
