Flaming text

24/12/2008

Here’s a cool and simple way to set your web-to-print templates on fire using a combination of distortions in repeating text fields placed on top of each other.

Before you start

Web-to-print before you start

  • Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame). This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
  • Create one artistic text frame and turn it into a variable web-to-print field called Text.

Distortions

We will use the same text frame for different distortion levels.

Copy the dummy text frame (Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V), activate the Distortion tool and set its properties to a Zipper, Random and Smooth distortion.

With the tool activated, click above the text frame and drag the cursor upwards.

Web-to-print distortion amplitude and frequencyYou should end up with a distortion amplitude of 12 and a distortion frequency of 100.

We now have the base distortion text frame. What we need are two more on top of it. Select the distorted text, duplicate it two more times and change the colors of the copies. You should end up with the original undistorted yellow text frame on top of all, the yellow distorted text below that one, a orange distorted text next, and a red distorted text as the bottom layer.

/

Lets add a few minor adjustments to the yellow and orange distorted text version. Select the yellow distorted text and change its amplitude distortion value to 3 and its frequency to 95. Repeat this step with the orange text as well changing the same values to 5 by 98. These changes add a tiny shift in the distortion nodes making bottom layers visible.

Contour

Let’s add a contour to the top undistorted yellow text to give it appearance of being hot inside out.

Select the text frame, activate CorelDRAW’s contour tool and add a contour with these settings.

Web-to-print Object and color acceleration/

Next, click on the Object and Color Acceleration icon in the top properties bar and set the object acceleration to minimum and color acceleration to maximum.

Final Touch

As a final touch lets add a small glow to the text. We only need to do that on the bottom text.

Select it, activate the Drop Shadow tool and choose the Small Glow preset from the Drop Shadow presets in the top properties bar.

Use these settings as a reference.
