Overlayed typography (PowerClip)
This is a cool typography trick for web-to-print or dynamic imaging templates where text need to stand out. There are two ways of doing this, using PowerClips or custom transparency operation.

Before you start
/
- Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame). This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
- Input some dummy texts, set their horizontal alignment and turn them into a variable web-to-print fields.
/
This technique was inspired by the “Baselitz poster” by UNA Amsterdam.
PowerClips
In a nutshell, we place a mirrored, misaligned copy of each dummy text inside the original dummy text as a PowerClip.
/
Copy all the variable text frames and mirror them both horizontally and vertically.
/
/
/
/
/
Move each one of the copies slightly off center in reference to the text frame under it. The result should be similar to this.
/
/
/
/
/
The next step is to place a copy of each of the mirrored text frames inside the regular text frame that is underneath it.
/
/
Select the top mirrored text frame, copy it (Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V) and place it inside the regular text frame as a PowerClip (Effects/PowerClip/Place Inside Container…)
/
/
/
Note. The text frame copy that you place inside the original dummy text must be positioned at the exact same place it was before you placed it inside the PowerClip container. Use the object coordinates visible at the top left corner in CorelDRAW.
/
/
/
/
/
Finally, take the copy of the mirrored text frame that was left outside of the PowerClip and move it behind the original dummy text frames in the Object Manager( Window/Dockers/Object manager). Repeat this to all text frames.
/
/
Your Object Manager should look like this at the end.
/
/
/
/
/
The result should be similar to this.
All done!
Our web-to-print software can handle this effect easily! Upload the template into your catalog and test it.
