Overlayed typography (Transparency)
Here’s another neat typography trick for web-to-print or dynamic imaging template. There are two ways of doing this, using custom transparency operation, as explained here or using PowerClips.

Before you start
/
- Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame) to your web-to-print template. This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
- Input some dummy texts, set their horizontal alignment and turn them into a variable web-to-print fields.
/
This technique was inspired by the “Baselitz poster” by UNA Amsterdam.
Dummy texts
In a nutshell, we’re going to place a mirrored, misaligned copy of each dummy text on top of the original and assign a custom transparency operation to it.
/
Copy all the variable text frames and mirror them both horizontally and vertically.
/
/
/
Move each one of the copies slightly off center in reference to the text frame under it. The result should be similar to this.
Transparency
Select all the mirrored dummy text frames and activate CorelDRAW’s Transparency Tool from the tool box menu on the left.
In the top settings bar of the transparency tool, chose Uniform as the transparency type and Add as the transparency operation.

The result should be similar to this.
All done!
Our web-to-print software can handle this effect easily! Upload the template into your catalog and test it.

Variations
The “Add” transparency operation is effected by the colors used for the transparent object as well as the ones used for the objects underneath.
/
/
/
Here’s what happens if you change the background color from black to pink.
/
/
You can also try different transparency operations to get different effects with the colors you used in your web-to-print design.
