Tips and tricks to add a two color gel like 3D text in your web-to-print templates.

Web-to-print Two color gel text

Before you start

  • Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame). This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
  • Duplicate the background rectangular shape and scale the copied rectangle half way vertically.
  • Set the colors for the background rectangle and the copied rectangle on top of it (Ex. Red for the background and Blue for the top one).
  • Input the dummy text, set its horizontal alignment and turn it into a variable web-to-print field.

Text colors

Duplicate the text frame. We’ll use one copy for one color and the other for the second color.

Note. Since both the text frames have to be perfectly aligned on top of each other, select them both and press P on the keyboard to center them on the page.

Web-to-print second text color/

/

Select one text frame and change it’s color by simply clicking on a color from the color palette on the right. (Ex. Blue)

/

Select the red text and place it inside the top (Blue) rectangle as a PowerClip.

Note. Don’t forget to center the text inside the PowerClip as well.

Object order

Only one half of each text frame needs to be visible, arrange the objects in a way that the blue PowerClip rectangle, containing the red text, ends up on top and the blue text is underneath it and has its upper half covered by the PowerClip.
